  2. Why do we have a PirateCard?
The main reason is to provide more secure cardholder identification; also, the card is capable of accessing more products and services and at more locations than the old ID card. It is a safe way to purchase items and services on campus without carrying cash.

  9. What can I pay for with my PirateCard account?
You may deposit into the Pirate Cash portion of the card and these funds rollover from semester to semester. Purchases can be made for food, printing, vending, laundry and bookstore.

Deposits can also be made into Dining Dollars that can only be used for food purchases (no vending). These funds rollover from semester to semester.

The Meal Plan at AASU is currently a debit fund. All students residing on campus must have a $400 debit plan for fall and for spring and a $200 debit plan for summer if enrolled in summer classes (Study Abroad and Internship students are exempt for summer). Students, not residing on campus, cannot purchase a Meal Plan. The Dining Dollars account can be used for students not living in on-campus housing.

The Meal Plan debit funds that are unused in the summer rollover to the fall semester. Fall semester Meal Plan debit funds rollover to spring semester. Please use all your debit funds by the last day of finals for the spring semester. No refunds are given for unused debit funds.

  10. Can I use my PirateCard to get cash?
No. The PirateCard is not an ATM card or credit card. It cannot be used to obtain cash or cash advances. Under no circumstances may debits or charges to an account reduce the account balance below zero.

  11. Why is my account balance different at vending, laundry, copying and printing?
When you deposited money into the Pirate Cash account, you can set a daily limit on these purchases that do not require human-to-human interaction. This is a safety feature of the PirateCard. If your card is lost or stolen, this would be a maximum that can be spent from your account at these unattended locations. You can set this daily limit, if you choose, when you open your PirateCard account in the PirateCard Office.
